The enthusiasm accompanying the moment of production can obscure from the artist's consciousness what they are trying to express. Artists can come to realize what the work entails in terms of content and subject only after contemplating the final result. This is what happened to me with these self-portraits.

I was not aware of the motives and ideas that led me to execute them, and these motives became apparent only after reconsidering them. That's when I discovered—as a recipient who knows who executed the self-portraits—that they are a self-motivated attempt to express oneself.
